Party-Girl 24, left with severe burns after explosion in a Bar

A party-goer enjoying a night out has been left with horrific burns after a flaming sambuca "exploded" in her face.

The 24-year-old woman was drinking the strong spirit at the bar when she was suddenly engulfed in fire.

Revellers were forced to dive for cover and staff called 999 reporting a customer’s "face is on fire" .

Reports suggested the flaming sambuca had "exploded" in her face while she partied in Lola’s cocktail lounge in Manchester's trendy Northern Quarter.

Eye-witnesses also said the woman's hair caught fire.

The injured woman was treated with morphine at the scene before she was rushed to hospital. She suffered burns to her cheeks, forehead and chest.

Bosses at Lola’s said they are reviewing their health and safety measures after the "freak accident".

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service confirmed it received a report of a woman with her ‘face on fire’ at 1.54am on Sunday.

The spokesman said: “A female suffered significant facial burns.”

Lola’s, which is the sister venue of the nearby Crown and Anchor pub and Shack bar, describes itself as a "Miami-style cocktail lounge" where "the bartenders have as much fun as the customers".

It also offers cocktail-making classes where you can "get a chance to make your own cocktails and learn about the history of each... even play with fire!"

A spokesman for Lola’s said: “Following the recent event in our venue resulting in injury to one of our customers, we sincerely offer our sympathies for her injuries sustained.

“We have been trading for many years and have never had another incident such as this and we have revisited our health and safety procedures once again to prevent this type of freak accident from happening again.”
