Speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt on Saturday, the minister, who flayed the declaration of a one-week holiday by the state government, said it was wrong for anybody to suggest that 25 out of 32 state lawmakers were on the side of the governor.
Wike also boasted that if he wants to contest the 2015 governorship election of the state, nobody can stop him, note even Amaechi and gave the governor knocks for fighting those he (Amaechi) perceives are nursing ambition to succeed him.
According to the minister, “When has nursing ambition become a criminal offence? Assuming I want to be Rivers governor in 2015, so what? Is it because I want to be governor, that is why you (Amaechi) will leave
the party and tell Rivers people lies?
“Is it because I want to be governor that is why Amaechi is quarrelling with President Goodluck Jonathan? Governorship is an ambition. If I want to run for governorship of Rivers state, nothing will stop me. Who told you I would not want to be the president of Nigeria?
“Nigeria will do well if we stand by the truth. Amaechi is a tyrant and he can be likened to Adolf Hitler. Amaechi is the worst tyrant I have ever known. If you do not know, know it now. I worked there (in Government House, Port Harcourt as Chief of Staff)”, he stressed.
Wike added that “Amaechi is the only one that God wants to have an ambition. No other person can have an ambition. It is a criminal offence for you to have an ambition, but it is constitutional for Amaechi to have an ambition”.
Dismissing suggestions that he stabbed Amaechi in the back, the minister described as false the claim that the governor was instrumental to his (Wike) emergence as the Obio/Akpor Council chairman for a second term just as he noted that they had never been friends; just political partners.
“The Rivers governor and I were not good friends. We worked together. Working together does not make you to be friends. I worked for him seriously”, he said adding that “With the circumstances at that time, if they happen now, I will still work for him because at every giving point in life, there are circumstances that will influence you to do one thing or another”.
But in his reaction, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Tony Okocha described Wike’s description of Amaechi as a tyrant as laughable, saying the governor gave the minister a free hand to operate when he (Wike) was the Government House Chief of Staff.
“It is laughable; It is a direct opposite of what he (Wike) meant to say. He knows that the governor is not a tyrant. The governor gave him a free hand and he misused it.
“In Amaechi’s administration, Wike has benefitted the most. Wike lost favour of Obio/Akor people after his first tenure as council chairman. He had no hope of a rerun because the people decided not to support him.
“Amaechi influenced his emergence as chairman of Obio/Akpor for second tenure. He has no respect for constituted authority. Wike has a long history of betrayal.
“It runs in his blood. I am advising him to look back and see how many people are falling by the wayside because of his mischief”, Okocha added.
